These are the webpages I was going to use in my 2010 General Election campaign.

The exercise was aborted for several reasons:

I had allowed far too little time to prepare a substantial website with videos.

There was very little interest expressed as a result of some 'test marketing' in late March 2010.

There was a desperately poor response to the JURYTEAM website, despite the Party having cost over £300,000 to launch. It was the intention to field hundreds of high calibre candidates to stand against 'Party fodder MPs'. In the event there were three or four good candidates and several clowns.

Despite all the media interest in the 'expenses scandal' most voters remained apathetic. If independent MPs could not have made a breakthrough to change the face of UK politics in 2010, directly after the expenses scandal, it is questionable whether there will ever be an opportunity.

Of course, Hugh Swire remains a typical implant. He is a standard-issue Tory MP parachuted into a safe seat. Folklore in East Devon is that a half empty yoghurt pot would be elected if it had a blue rosette attached. This will happen again, as in other 'safe' seats. Only the development of internet voting (as opposed to internet campaigning) might now make a difference with so many previously apathetic people becoming sufficiently interested to click on a few websites.

My campaign would have cost only £900 (£500 to stand and £400 for printing 45,000 leaflets). And of course, a lot of time spent in front of a computer. In the event I ran out of both time and enthusiasm.

Internet voting could pose a threat to the dominance of the major parties. So watch out for the deposit being raised to £5000 (from £500) as they try to maintain the cosy arrangement of excluding outsiders.

Standing for Parliament - 6 May 2010

Parliament needs independent thinkers - not lobby fodder and wives on expenses!

There will be some youtube videos - so you can listen to my views.

I have an extensive history of calling bureaucrats and politicians to account.

Here are a few of the things I wish to achieve as an MP. I could do some of them outside Parliament but few people would take any notice. As an MP, I could make far more of an impact - simply because I would get far more publicity.

Most people become MPs because they are obedient 'lobby fodder' and are selected by their party machine. Many (including Hugo Swire) are parachuted into safe seats and are then expected to do as they are told. They also get offers of various 'directorships' - all part of the dubious lobby industry.

After a lifetime of hard work, I am already financially independent. I am not in this for the money and no-one will be able to tell me what to say or how to vote!

My politics are a mixture of 'blue and green' - years ago in Sidmouth I stood as a Turquoise candidate.

*    Waste and incompetence within government is extensive. Many 'jobs for life' simply don't need doing.

*    Immigration needs to be severely curtailed - we have too many people in this country already.

*    I wish to use my scientific expertise to expose the sheer scale of waste - click here for one example.

*    Environmental issues are very important - but so is logical scientific analysis of the 'Green' Agenda.

*    A weak pound means a weak country - it is rubbish to say a weak pound is good for long-term recovery.

*    Debt must be addressed, or we will end up as a banana republic - and the pound will lose yet more value.

*    It is time policies rewarded savers, not irresponsible people who spend too much.

*    Subsidised laziness must come to an end. Benefits for the lazy and idle need to be cut.

*    Tax avoidance by the super-rich is a huge issue - guess why politicians avoid addressing it.

*    MPs should be people who have worked for a living in the 'real world', not just in the Westminster village.

*    Politics needs people who are clever, accomplished, independent and not in it for the money.

*    I have extensive knowledge of government at all levels - I have worked there, in London, in Sidmouth.

I'm not in it for the money. Unlike Hugo Swire, I don't have a wife to whom I could pay £40,000 pa. I am offering voters a viable 'independent' alternative to party politicians.

I would intend to give much of my salary and expenses to charity. I believe we need far fewer career politicians and fewer 'implanted A-list candidates' (such as Hugo Swire) who are parachuted into safe seats.

I have extensive relevant experience as a government scientist - this included the workings of both Whitehall and Westminster. No lobby group would be able to 'pull the wool over my eyes' in the way they do with so many MPs who are scientifically illiterate.

We need to bring realism, honesty and common sense into politics. I am an environmental scientist and lifetime 'conservationist' but I do not agree with some of the policies of the Green Party. I have written a couple of books and co-authored many government studies in energy conservation. I have given evidence to two Select Committees of Parliament.
