Sidmouth FolkWeek tickets: why over 30 clicks to find all the data you need for planning your week?

Marketing is all about catching and keeping the attention of prospective purchasers. Taking money off them should be made as painless as possible.

Indeed, sellers should aim to make the experience enjoyable and stress free!

As a newcomer to the Sidmouth Festival - you'd need to find out all about festival prices and the various options available for camping.

sidmouthclickone.jpg (76343 bytes) Welcome to Sidmouth Folk Week - the new home page for the 2011 festival.

So far so good - "If you're new to Sidmouth you're in for a treat!"

Sounds promising.

There is a clear link to Tickets on the main menu to the left.

sidmouthclicktwo.jpg (69843 bytes) The main tickets page lists all the different types of tickets available - well, not exactly all, because Camping Passports are not mentioned.

Data is given on prices for adult 'early bird tickets' - but that is all.

It is implied that only people with the specified types of event tickets may utilise the official campsite.

But at the bottom of the page there is a direct and clear link for buying tickets - even if you're still entirely unclear a this stage what you may need or how much you may have to spend for a family weekend - or an entire week.

sidmouthclickthree.jpg (109251 bytes) The complexity of the Sidmouth ticket structure is now revealed - now where would you like to start? How much would various options cost?

Of course, old timers know most of it already, we've got used to it over the years......

Let's find out more details......choose one of the options - maybe the All-in-One tickets.

sidmouthclickfour.jpg (49478 bytes) Useful information on the All-in-One tickets - and it has taken only three clicks so far.

But still there are no prices for children or other age groups.

But there is an as yet unspecified discount on pre-festival events.

sidmouthclickfive.jpg (34892 bytes) All is revealed - and only four clicks. But now we need to look at the other options and all the other types of tickets - remember, we are newcomers, not old hands.

The shortest route is actually to go back to Tickets on the left hand menu, but in error we click 'return to all show events' which takes us only one step back

sidmouthclicksix.jpg (37981 bytes) This is getting tedious.

In fact, to obtain all the information is little short of frustrating - it takes about 30 clicks depending on your route to obtain ALL the price data for ALL days just be to sure you know you have the right options before you commit to purchase.

Note added August 2011: a future page details why I found the Sidmouth website so disappointing after years of seeing Banking and Building Society websites improve: Sidmouth went in the opposite direction!
