Blue Ball Inn Sidford, totally destroyed by fire on 18 March 2006. Fire appliances arrived at 7.30 pm.

At midnight the main road looked like a battlefield - 12 fire engines, several support vehicles and large hoses all over the village. Water was pumped from the river Sid until midday on 19 March as the crews damped down the still smouldering and steaming ruins. Once a thatched roof is well alight, little can be done to save it. Parts of the building were dated from the fourteenth century.
